The Older Women's Network Bankstown Wellness Centre is now opening registrations for our next Recipes for Connection Workshop. This project offers an opportunity for older women from refugee/migrant backgrounds to participate in a series of 5 cooking sessions to tell their stories through food and cooking. They can choose from the 2 workshop sessions (see dates below).
The participants will have to commit to attending all 5 sessions. They will be asked to discuss or cook one recipe that has cultural or significant meaning to them personally. Limited English is not a barrier. All cooking materials will be provided for free and each participant will be given a $20 grocery voucher per session to cover their cost of transportation etc.
We held our first workshop this term with 8 Syrian older women and 2 from Cyprus and it was a very enjoyable and meaningful experience for all with new friendships forged.
Workshops 2 & 3 will be held over 5 weeks at The Culinary School Punchbowl. Free parking at Broadway shopping centre and access from public transport. Morning tea provided and a $20 voucher to cover transportation costs. We also share the meal at the end of the cooking sessions.
