The NSW Service for the Treatment and Rehabilitation of Torture and Trauma Survivors (STARTTS), in collaboration with Powerhouse Youth Theatre (PYT), is proud to present a new live theatre production titled Hayat Amina (Safe Life). This innovative performance was created in response to the lack of culturally tailored education on healthy relationships and sexual violence prevention for young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds.
Hayat Amina has been co-designed by an ensemble of young artists from these communities and explores ways to navigate healthy relationships among peers, within families, and across broader social settings. The production is grounded in the lived experiences of young people in South West and Western Sydney and aims to start important conversations around safety and wellbeing.
This is one of the first theatre works of its kind created by the community, for the community. A limited season of live performances will begin on September 24 at PYT’s theatre in Fairfield. Western Sydney schools are invited to attend free of charge.
