Welcoming Week in Canterbury-Bankstown

Canterbury-Bankstown Council is proud to host Welcoming Week from 12–21 September, an annual celebration that highlights communities working together to create inclusive, welcoming environments for all. The week features events aimed at supporting new residents—particularly those seeking asylum and refugees—to feel a sense of belonging in the local community.

Cultural Mindfulness – An Introduction to Australian Culture
This interactive workshop is designed for everyone—whether newly arrived, long-settled, or part of a multi-generational migrant family. Participants will explore key aspects of Australian culture, including everyday customs, language, and traditions that shape life in Australia. Each participant will receive a certificate acknowledging their journey into Aussie culture.
When: Friday 12 September, 9:30am–12:30pm

Walk and Talk by the River – in Farsi
This nature-based session offers Farsi-speaking participants an opportunity to connect with Australia’s environment through a guided walk. Learn about native birds, bush tucker, and local flora and fauna, followed by a relaxed picnic by the river.
