Being Curious is a series of presentations from local and national initiatives who are curious about enhancing the lives of diverse populations in the community. This series will engage the listener with projects that will encourage you to get more curious. Once your curiosity is sparked, it will kindle further action to engage with these projects, connect older people from your service to them or even ignite your own ventures.
This is an opportunity to find out more about grass roots ideas which aim to impact the lives of marginalised or vulnerable people by strengthening their capacities physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.
Tuesday 26 May: Stephen Merrett, Mindset for Life Project Officer
This presentation provides an introduction to the concept of rethinking retirement as a new phase of life, with as much possibility and potential as any other stage in life. The session is facilitated by peer facilitators who have or are navigating their own retirement. Find out what retirement was designed to be and how contemporary lives require a reframing of that. Walk through six distinct stages in the retirement transition, with previous participants sharing their lived experience stories.
Participants find out what retirement was designed to be and how contemporary lives require a reframing of that. We then walk through six distinct stages in the retirement transition, with previous participants sharing their own experiences of, or thoughts about, retirement. Participants generally find this activity to be reassuring and affirming of their own experience; typical comments include, “it’s not just me!” or “I’m so relived it’s normal!”
Takeaways include a reframing of retirement; a tool and framework to help plan each day for pleasure and purpose, a graphic of the six stages of retirement; a resources sheet to go deeper; information about where Mindset for Life is running in coming months.
